Congratulations to all Grade 6 - 8 badminton players for your success over the weekend in Winnipegosis.  In grade 6 action, Alex, Ja'Lisa, Landon and Brendan just missed the playoffs.  Akelia lost out in the semi-finals while Breanna won the Singles Championship.  In grade 7 play, Carter, Kerry, Dalayna and Benson lost in semi-final action.  Jacob and Avery finished 2nd in boys doubles while Kael finished 2nd in boys singles.  Matthew Brasch finished just out of the playoffs in the grade 8 pool, while Kalyn lost in the semi-finals.  Darian took home the championship in boys singles.
 
Dauphin Soccer Association is now open all players U18.  To register for U18 teams go to Dauphin Soccer Association website and follow the registration link.  Practice will be Wednesday 7-9 pm.  No prior soccer experience is required.  Everyone is welcome to register.

Our Grade 1 - 6 students have been working with Brenda Gorlick, through the Artist in the School Program, and will be putting on a showcase tomorrow at approximately 2:30.  Everyone is welcome to come and watch as the students showcase some of the musical theatre techniques they have been working on.  There is no fee to attend.

Monday, March 11, 2019 - Day 2
 
The Grade 6/7 Boys Basketball team traveled to Dauphin on Saturday to compete in divisionals.  In their first game, the Spartans defeated the Grade 6 Magic team by 27 points.
 
In the championship game, the Spartans came out strong and shut down the much larger Grade 7 Magic team by playing great defense.  The Spartans pulled away in the second half to claim the championship.  Congratulations Boys!
 
The Grade 6/7 Girls Basketball team traveled to the same championship tournament with only 7 players.  These 7 players put in a tremendous effort in squeaking out a close, low scoring game one victory over Ochre River.
 
In the championship game, the Spartans won another nail biter, this time over the grade 7 Magic team to claim 1st place in the division.  All 7 players were game stars for their efforts on Saturday!
 
Any high school students interested in badminton are to sign up with Mr. Vigini.  Practices will start next week.
 
Grade 6 - 8 students interested in playing badminton are to sign up at the office by Wednesday.

I Love to Read Bingo is Dino-Soccer.
 
The grade 6-8 boys hosted a tournament this past Saturday.  In their first game, they defeated Gilbert Plains by a score of 36 to 24.  Game two saw the Spartans crush Roblin by a score of 38-8.  The final game of the day was a thriller as the Spartans came up against the favored team from Swan River.  With some successful free throws late in the game, and some terrific defense, Grandview came through with a 32-30 win.  All players saw action throughout the day and contributed to the success of the team.
 
The high school street hockey tournament will be postponed until a later date. 
 
Just a reminder about the chili and bannock lunch on Friday.  Please hand in your forms to your homeroom teachers by tomorrow.

The girls basketball team traveled to Minnedosa for a tournament this weekend.  They fought hard and won the B side.  MVP was Kailyn Manweiler.  Game stars were Erin Barnett, Deana Mintuck and Kourtney Mancheese.  Congratulations girls!

A reminder that tomorrow is Kindness Day in Grandview.  If you have something pink, wear it to take a stand against bullying and unkind behaviour.  The high school will be holding a breakfast in period 1 tomorrow and elementary leadership council will be coming around with more activities to celebrate the day.

Congratulations to Cory Shingoose for winning the high school candy guess with a perfect guess of 88.  The K-8 candy guess winner was Emma Froese with a guess of 185.  Thanks to all for your support with the bookfair, we raised $1770 for the library and $350 for the Rec. Commission.
 
Congratulations to the students who competed in the skills challenge today, they did well representing our school.  Special congratulations goes to the business team of Landyn, Emma, Mia and Kaidyn who won 3rd place and Selena who won 1st in the Early Childhood Education and Dawson who won 1st place in carpentry.  They both won a $1,000 tuition grant for ACC.

Congratulations to the Grade 6-8 boys for defeating Gilbert Plains 50-35 last night in Gilbert Plains.  All 14 boys played and contributed to the win.  Practice tonight until 5:00.

Monday, February 11, 2019 - Day 2
 
There is homework club tomorrow.
 
Congratulations to the grade 6 - 8 boys basketball team for winning the tournament in Swan River.  They defeated Camperville 34-16 in game 1 before Adam, Kerry and Brendan led the Spartans to a 44-12 defeat of Swan Valley.  Game 3 saw the Spartans pull away late in a 59-39 win over Minitonas.  In their last game, the boys had a slow start but defeated Dauphin 7's 34-17.
 
The girls basketball team took first place at the tournament in Swan River on Saturday.  The team played hard and stayed ahead of all their opponents through each game in spite of some very rough atacks.  Our MVP was Kourtney Mancheese with 19 baskets in the one day!  Game Stars were Emerson MacLean, Gracee Plante, Jorja Cords and Kailyn Manweiler.  Great job girls!
 
I Love to Read Bingo for today is Aliens Love Dinopants!
 
PAC Valentine's Tea is on Friday, February 15.  Doors open at 1:00 with the performances beginning at 1:00.  Entertainment provided by Grade K-6 classes.  Admission is $5.00 for adults, preschool free.  Everyone welcome!  Coffee, tea and desserts will be served.

The exams scheduled for today are postponed. Essential Math 20S, ELA 30S, and Social Studies 10F exams scheduled for today have been postponed until Thursday, January 31st.

 

Thursday's Geography 20F and Physics 30S exams will be written on Monday, February 4th.

 

Classes for Semester 2 will begin Tuesday February 5th.

 

Mr. Ostafie is not here for music lessons today.

There will be regular school curling this week.
 
Due to extreme cold windchill and poor winter driving conditions, buses are cancelled for Grandview School today.  The school will remain open.  The Essential Math and English exams scheduled for today have been postponed until Wednesday, January 30th.  The Social Studies exam scheduled for Wednesday will still be written as scheduled.
 
There is Grade 6-8 girls basketball practice after school today.

Monday, January 28, 2019 - Day 5
 
Congratulations to the Grade 6-8 boys basketball team for winning the Mackenzie Classic this past weekend.  On Friday, they defeated the Dauphin grade 7 team by 20 points.  On Saturday, they beat both the Dauphin and Neepawa Grade 8 teams by 2 points to capture first place.  Special mention to Darian for being named the tournament MVP.
 
The girls basketball team won two of their three games this weekend at the Dauphin tournament to collect second place plaque.  We crushed the grade 7 Mackenzie team and the girls team from Neepawa, losing by only 4 to Dauphin.  Congratulations to player award winners Emerson MacLean, Dalayna Tomlinson and Amanda Evans.

Friday, January 25, 2019 - Day 4
 
There is a short elementary leadership meeting at noon today in the art room.
 
Congratulations to the Middle Years curlers that attended the Divisional Bonspiel in Roblin yesterday.  The team of Avery Mikolayenko, Alex Gonty, Kerry Myers and Alix Turetsky won one game, lost one game and skip Mikolayenko made a great shot to earn a tie their last game. The girls team of Dalayna Tomlinson, Emma Froese, Amanda Evans and Raelee Brasch won all of their Round Robin games and beat Gilbert Plains in the semi-final.  They battled hard and ultimately lost to Mackenzie Middle School in the final.  Grandview School was well represented by these athletes.

Congratulations to the Grade 6-8 Boys Basketball team for finishing second in a tournament in Neepawa this past weekend.  They played a total of 6 games, winning 4 of them.  They now prepare to take part in the Mackenzie Magic tournament this weekend.

The Grade 4/5 volleyball teams travelled to Dauphin on Saturday for the divisional tournament.  All teams are to be commended for their excellent behaviour and good sportsmanship throughout the day.  There will be a mini volleyball windup at 12:30 for those that wish to attend.
 
Congratulations to the Grade 7 and 8's on their performance this weekend at the Grade 8 volleyball provincials in Winnipeg.  The girls went 2-2 in the round robin beating Hamiota and Glenboro and losing to Niverville and Charleswood.  They then lost in the playoffs to St. Pauls in 3 sets.  Great job girls and congratulations again on a great season!

Congratulations to the Grade 6/7/8 boys on winning the MVSD Divisional Volleyball tournament yesterday.  They played some excellent games.  Great end to the season boys!
 
Congratulations to both girls volleyball teams for their performance at Divisionals yesterday.  The 6/7 teamfinished 4th in the Grade 8 division, a day after getting 2nd in the Grade 7 divisional.  The Grade 8 team had a great day but lost a tough match in the finals.  Great job girls, you should be proud of your performance.

Congratulations to the Grade 6/7 and Grade 8 girls volleyball teams for winning their tournaments in Roblin this weekend.  The grade 6/7 team went 10-1 on the day and beat Ochre River in the finals.  The grade 8 girls had a 9-2 record and defeated Russell in the finals.  Great job girls!

Student Voice members will meet throughout the school year to contribute ideas to the school division on issues that impact students.
