A partial solar eclipse is set to occur on Monday April 8, 2024, between noon and 3 p.m. While this is a rare and spectacular event, there is a risk of permanent vision damage if proper precautions are not taken. Even a brief look at the partially eclipsed sun can result in permanent damage. Please keep in mind that it is never safe to look at the sun without proper safety equipment. Sunglasses do not provide enough protection.
Based on recommendations from the provincial government, Mountain View School Division is requiring that all students in Grades K - 8 and vulnerable students in all grades are kept inside from noon until 3 pm unless they are released to the care of their parents during that time. Students in these grades that normally leave the school at lunch will need to bring a lunch or make arrangements for their parents to pick them up from the office.
The safest way to view this event is through an online streaming platform.
