Congratulations to the JV boys basketball team for finishing third at the Neepawa tournament this past weekend.  In their first game, the Spartans defeated The Pas 61-58 despite having two players foul out.  In their second game, the Spartans lost 97-80 to Flin Flon, placing them in the 3rd place game.  In the third place game., the Spartans trailed by one with 4 seconds left.  A foul with less than 1 second left gave the Spartans 2 free throws.  Both shots were made and the Spartans won 89-88.

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team for defeating Gilbert Plains last night by a score of 75-77 despite playing the last 4 minutes of the game with only 4 players.  The boys now advance to Zone play next Tuesday.

The varsity girls basketball team traveled to Winnipegosis for a game against the combined Winnipegosis/Pine Creek team.  Despite having only 5 players, the girls fought hard and kept the game close throughout.  They are to be commended for a great effort.

Congratulations to the JV boys basketball team for winning the consolation side of the Dauphin Clippers tournament. After opening with a loss to Portage, the Spartans defeated Neepawa by 20 and Thompson by 15.  Players of the game were Ryan Shoemaker and Darian Giasson.

The junior girls basketball team competed in a tournament in Dauphin this past weekend.  After winning their first game 32-18 against Portage, they lost a close one to Neepawa 48-46.  This put them first in their pool, pitting them against the hometown Clippers in the championship.  Despite a great effort, the girls were defeated in the final, but were happy to take home the 2nd place plaque.  Player of the game honours went to Jorja Cords, Kourtney Mancheese and Kailyn Manweiler.  Congrats to the girls on a phenomenal showing.

Mrs. Robak is looking for volunteers to help plan the next Scholastic Book Fair.  There is a sign-up sheet in the library, and the first meeting will be on Monday at 12:25 in the library.

Congratulations to the grade 6 - 8 curlers who competed at the divisional bonspiel yesterday in Roblin.  Your sportsmanship and excellent behaviour represented our school well.  Special mention to Jakob, Avery, Kerry and Alex who advanced to playoff round and lost out to Gilbert Plains.  Thanks also to Chris for coming along to help. Regular school curling will resume next week.

The JV boys traveled to McCreary last nigh to take on the Maveriks in an exhibition game.  After a close first quarter, the Spartans pulled ahead and won by a score of 71 - 52.  The varsity boys team will practice today until 5:00.
 
January 20, 2020 - Day 5

A reminder that the Middle Years Bonspiel is on Wednesday and there will not be regular curling on Thursday.  Please hand in your permission forms by tomorrow.
 
The junior boys basketball team played hard this weekend during their 3 games at Mackenzie Middle School.  Practice after school today in the high school gym.
 
The varsity boys traveled to Ste. Rose for a tournament this past weekend.  In their first game they lost to Glenboro.  Friday evening they lost by 4 to Gilbert Plains.  Saturday afternoon they defeated McCreary by 30.  Congratulations to Darian and Tyler for  receiving player of the game awards.
 
Grade 6 - 8 girls placed 3rd this weekend.  Practice today in Elementary gym.

Congratulations to the varsity boys basketball team for their victory over the Gilbert Plains Trojans last night.  They won a hard fought game by a score of 67 - 57.
 
The varsity girls basketball team played in Gilbert Plains yesterday.  Despite being on the wrong side of a lopsided score, the girls showed great improvements in the second half.
 
Good luck to to all students who are participating in the Caribou math contest today and tomorrow.

Monday, December 16, 2019 - Day 2
The varsity boys travelled to Elm Creek on Friday to compete in a 1 day tournament.  After losing game 1 to Pine Creek, the Spartans defeated the host team by 30 points.  Congratulations to Darian for being named to the tournament All-Star team.
 
The girls junior varsity basketball team participated in a tournament in Swan River on Saturday. Although they lost both games, scores improved immensely from last weekend as they lost to Swan Valley 50-31 and to The Pas 51-36.
 
Grade 6-8 girls basketball practice tonight in the elementary gym.
 
There will be junior varsity girls basketball practice  tomorrow at 3:45.  Anyone not able to attend is asked to see Mrs. Pulock sometime today.

The girls 6 - 8 basketball team won last night against Gilbert Plains.  Players of the game were Dalayna Tomlinson and Arielle Stewart.  Good job girls!
 
Monday, December 9, 2019 - Day 3
The varsity boys basketball team travelled to Roblin over the weekend to compete in a tournament.  On Friday, after opening with a loss to Roblin, the boys fell short in a hard fought game by a score of 55-53.  Saturday saw the team pick up their first win with  55-37 win over Russell.
 
The junior varsity girls basketball team was also in Roblin on Saturday for a one-day tournament.  With only six players the girls showed great persistence and determination in their two games.  The girls lost both games, their first game by a wide margin, but the second game was much closer.  The girls are to be commended for representing their school with positive attitudes and great sportsmanship.
 
There will be a buffalo leader meeting today in the sewing room at 11:25.  All members should attend.
 
Come and watch the junior girls basketball team play after school today!  The boys will play directly after the girls versus Gilbert Plains.  Boys will start warming up at 4:30.
 
The Social Action Group will be selling rafiki bracelets in front of the office from Tuesday to Thursday.  Bracelets are $10 - $15.

A belated congratulations to the Grade 4/5 mini-volleyball teams that participated in the tournament in Dauphin on Saturday.  All players represented Grandview School well with excellent sportsmanship.  Although we didn't end up with any playoff teams, we had a lot of fun and improved throughout the day.

Congratulations to the grade 7/8 boys volleyball team on their participation in the divisionals yesterday.
 
Good job to the grade 8 girls for their performance at divisional yesterday.  The girls finished 1st in their pool but lost in a tough semi final.  Congratulations on a great season.
There will be a windup for all grade 6/7/8 boys and girls volleyball players on Wednesday, November 13 at 3:40.

Congratulations to the grade 6/7 boys for some well played games yesterday at divisionals.  Some great digs, hits and teamwork!  MVP goes to Brendan, with Carter as honorable mention. Boys practice today after school.

Monday, November 4, 2019 - Day 5
Congratulations to the Junior Boys volleyball team on 4 wins at the Swan River tournament.  Our team had some great plays.  Team MVP on Saturday was Avery for his excellent sets and his encouraging teamwork and his extra effort.
 
The 6-8 girls were in Swan River this weekend for a tournament.  The 6/7 girls finished 3rd in their division and played well all day.  Thank you to Mrs. Topham for coaching them.  The grade 8's had a struggle but stuck together well as a team and finished 4th.
 
Friday, November 1, 2019 - Day 4
Grade 6/7/8 volleyball teams leave for Swan River at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Make sure you take shorts & shoes home tonight as the school will not be open in the morning.
 
Clocks change this weekend, they move back one hour.

Congratulations to the Grade 6 - 8 girls for their performance this weekend in the Roblin tournament.  The 6/7 team finished with a 3-5 record and continued to show improvement with their confidence and movement.  The Grade 8's played well all day and went undefeated, beating Russell ina tough, well played final.  Great job girls!

Congratulations to the junior boys volleyball team for their team work yesterday!  They had one win against Gilbert Plains.  Team MVP was Benson, honourable mention goes to Jakob and Carter.
 
Congratulations to the girls volleyball teams yesterday for their performance against Gilbert Plains.  The 6/7 girls won all three of their games and showed improvement again.  The grade 8 girls played extremely well and won all three games as well.  Thanks to Sawyer and Aiden for reffing the games.

In honor of Orange Shirt day today, the Buffalo Leaders prepared stew and bannock for all staff and students.  
Congratulations to the Grade 6 - 8 girls volleyball teams for their performance this weekend at their home tournament.  The 6/7s played hard and improved throughout the day and won a couple of sets.  The grade 8's played well all day and went undeated, beating GP in the finals.  Great job girls!
 
The Grade 6/7/8 boys held their home tournament this weekend.  They finished 2nd in the round robin and after some hard fought games they finished third overall.  Good job boys!

Do you want to make a positive difference in your school and school division? Are you interested on an opportunity to contribute your ideas about education in a forum where you will be heard? Do you wish to gain valuable leadership experience? If so, consider applying to be a part of the Mountain View School Division Student Voice Initiative.  Grade 9 - 12 students who attend an MVSD high school are eligible to apply. 
 
Student Voice members will meet throughout the school year to contribute ideas to the school division on issues that impact students.

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year.  Welcome back to all returning students and staff and welcome to Grandview School to all new students and staff.  I hope everyone has had a good summer and are looking forward to having a great year.
